First corona infection found in Olympic village

The organizers of the Olympic Games in Tokyo announced on Saturday that a first corona infection had been detected in the Olympic village. “It concerns a visitor from abroad,” said Toshiru Muto, director of the organizing committee.

The Japanese population is wary of hosting the Olympics given the flare-up of new coronavirus infections, which is putting pressure on the already overburdened medical system.

Organizers in Tokyo have confirmed that a visitor from abroad who works for the Olympics tested positive for the corona virus during a routine check on Friday. The person’s nationality was not disclosed for privacy reasons. It is the first infections in the Olympic village.

The infected person tested negative at the airport upon arrival in Japan, but tested positive at the entrance to the Olympic village. This was reported by the Chinese news agency Xinhua.

Six days before the start of the Olympic Games

The infection was diagnosed six days before the start of the sporting event. Organizers acknowledge that the contamination is a cause for concern.
